What Your Baby's Position In The Womb Means As Labor Approaches

During pregnancy, the fetal position can be described generally as the most comfortable position for your baby in the womb. As labor approaches, some fetal positions are safer than others. Different fetal positions and their meaning;

1) Breech position: the head of the fetus rest upward instead of downward. This position can be classified into three, namely; 

a) Frank breech.

b) Complete breech.

c) Footling breech.

2) The anterior position: this can be described as the best position for a fetus before labor. The fetus faces the back of the pregnant mother and the head points towards the pelvis. It reduces the chances of complications during pregnancy.

3) Posterior or back to back position: in this position, the head of the fetus points down and its back rest against the mothers back. This can lead to slower labor and backache because it can be difficult for the head to tuck in.

4) Transverse lie position: in this position, the fetus lies horizontally. A cesarean delivery will be needed if the baby maintains this position during labor. Without this, a medical emergency risk known as umbilical pro lapse can occur.
