The Attorney General of The Federation And The Chief of Army Staff Are Likely To Suffer Imprisonment For Disobeying Court Order.

The Federal High Court of Nigeria, Honourable Justice Obiora Egwuatu had on the 21st day of February, 2023, ordered the ATTORNEY - GENERAL OF THE FEDERATION, THE CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF OF THE NIGERIAN ARMY AND THE NIGERIAN ARMY to release the Applicant in this suit by name 'SULEIMAN HUSSEIN LIMAN' (who is my Client) from custody since he had finished serving his jail term of 7 years but for over 2 years, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Respondents (herein named above) have refused to release him to enjoy his freedom all in the name of preparing him to undergo Operation Safe Corridor for radicalization and rehabilitation! The Court in its Judgment has held that the said Operation Safe Corridor which is a purported policy under which the Applicant has been illegally and unlawfully held for a continuous period of 9 years despite having finished serving his jail term is unknown to law!

Till this date, the said Attorney General of the Federation, the Nigerian Army and the Chief of Army Staff (i.e. the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Respondents jointly and or severally) have continued to disobey the order of the Court for the  release of the Applicant from custody and apologising in 2 national news paper as ordered by the Court!

Form 48 and Form 49 for contempt of Court had been served on the said Attorney General of the Federation and the Chief of Army Staff about 2 weeks ago, but till today, they have refused to release the Applicant from custody and have continued to disobey the Order of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Abuja.

The contempt proceedings has been fixed for hearing on the 8th day of May, 2023, by the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The implication of this contempt proceedings is that the ATTORNEY - GENERAL OF THE FEDERATION and THE CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF OF THE NIGERIAN ARMY are likely to be sent to prison or the Correctional Service by the Court on the 8th day of May, 2023, if they fail to obey the court order forthwith as ordered by the Court!

We call on well meaning Nigerians and the constituted authorities both in Nigeria and the international communities to intervene and prevail upon the Attorney General of the Federation and the Chief of Army Staff of the Nigerian Army of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for justice to prevail and for the promotion of the RULE OF LAW in this case!

The Applicant's family and their lawyer (my humble self) have done all that they could to ensure justice prevails in this case! The situation is a total injustice that requires urgent rescue!
