You are right, Leadership is a trust and a call to service that must be delivered to the benefit of all. Opposite of what we witnessed with the immediate past leadership of Johnson. There's no disputing the obvious fact that the past two years of his leadership was a failure. The past Executives can vehemently attest to that, we only choose to keep quiet inorder to allow peace to reign. What reason does he have to keep withholding the Certificates of Meritorious Service that should have been given to the past YLF Executives. He told me point-blank, he will not give me the Certificate until I pay him 4000 Naira. When he was given Certificate of Meritious Service by his predecessor Owowo did he collect a dime from him. Good afternoon Learned Seniors and colleagues of this great branch. I officially welcome on board the YLF Chairman, Barr. Elijah Israel Elijah and all other EXCO members as they drink from the fountain of humanitarian service in the corner of NBA leadership. I officially congratulate the newly appointed Executive members of the Bwari branch Young Lawyers Forum. It was nice serving with my executive this two year tenure. I appreciate all members of the Young Lawyers forum, the branch leadership and my out gone executive members for their support all through our dispensation. The new leaders have already commenced their leadership on a very positive note by exercising their functions without waste of time. Indeed, they are competent and good to take the YLF to the next level. We will do a proper handing over soonest of the documents and properties of the YLF to the new executive soon. NBA PRESIDENT MOURNS THE PASSING OF HON JUSTICE CHIMA CENTUS NWEZE, JSC  Mary Akanbi 31st July, 2023 The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, OON, SAN has received with shock and dismay the news of the passing of Hon. Justice Chima Centus Nweze, Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, which sad event occurred on Sunday, 30 July, 2023. Hon. Justice Nweze was an astute and erudite jurist. His lordship's numerous decisions have shaped, impacted and developed our law and jurisprudence. He was a disciplined, hardworking, and courageous judicial officer. The NBA President condoles with the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kayode Ariwoola, GCON, the entire Nigerian Judiciary, the Government and People of Enugu State, friends and family of Hon. Mary Akanbi 31st July, 2023 The Nigerian Bar Association Women's Forum, Bwari led by the Facilitator, Mrs Agnes A. Fache-Omuya and it's Executives in it's meeting had resolved and appointed additional Executives to the forum. It was also resolved at the Executive meeting to appoint a new Publicity Secretary as the office of the P.R.O was erroneously included since the National NBAWF does not have the office of the P.R.O. Yewande Mary Akanbi was appointed as the new Publicity Secretary while Juliet Ariwodo was appointed Treasurer of the Forum, while the other Executives members of the forum still stands. The terms of References are: a.  Prepare Topics for training, webner,  source for speakers, (physical or zoom) venue, logistic etc submit budget or Report  to Exco for deliberations. b.  Engaging and collaborating model law firms with up coming young lawyers for the purposes of exposing them to legal practice. c.  Participating in Fund raising for our mandate.

Mary Akanbi 30th July, 2023 I must quickly say that under the  Nigerian Legal system, settlement of property among couple who are/ were married  statutorily (under the Act or by "Court Marriage") is  regulated by the Matrimonial Causes Act 1970. Sadly, the Act did not automatically qualify a woman to on ground of marriage alone be entitled to a share of her husband's property.  Section 72 (1) of the Matrimonial Causes Act 1970  provides as follows; “in proceedings under this decree, by order require the parties to the marriage, or either of them to make for the benefit of all or any of the parties to and the children of the marriage such settlement of property to which the parties: or either of them is entitled (whether in possession or reversion) as the court considers just and equitable in the circumstances of the cases” By this legislation, the judge who presides over  a divorc
