The President
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA)
NBA House,
Plot 1101, Mohammadu Buhari Way,
Central Business District,
Abuja, F.C.T,
Nigeria.
Your Excellency,
AN APPEAL FOR THE RENEWAL OF LAW PAVILLION FREE SUBSCRIPTION FOR
LAWYERS
1. The above subject refers.
2. I am Alphonsus Inegbedion, a young lawyer of the NBA Lagos Branch. I wish to seize this medium to convey my heartfelt congratulations to you sir, on your emergence as the new NBA President for the next two years. As I congratulate you on your successful election, I pray that your tenure be even more successful than that of your predecessor, the most distinguished Olumide Akpata, Esq, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
3. Without causing any interference to your ‘_ point Agenda’ /schedule/work plans for your tenure, which has successfully commenced, I wish to express a major concern to me, and I believe, fellow young lawyers, on the expiration of the free Law Pavillion subscription we have enjoyed in the last two years, courtesy of your Predecessor. The initiative by the immediate past NBA President is the best thing that has happened to me, in my few years of practice and I believe all lawyers commend that ingenuous initiative. As fledgling lawyers, it has increased our quest for learning and research; our passion for the profession; it has also given us the platform to equip ourselves
for the today and tomorrow of the legal profession in Nigeria.
4. Your Excellency, going through the content of your 20-paged Inaugural Address, as the 31st President of the NBA, dated 26th August 2022, among other addresses and speeches delivered subsequently on one occasion or another, it is glaring to all eyes that you are a man of letters, learned in the true sense of the word. Such a man is the type needed at this critical time of our nation’s history, where education, research and learning have been relegated to the background. No thanks to the successive governments of our dear nation. Attaining such heights then in your speech and writing can only be linked to your access to adequate legal resources that aid your research; same having been sustained through your many years of practice.
5. As our new leader, just like any father, we believe it is your wish that we the younger ones do better than you have done and are doing. As the hope of a heightened future leadership for the Bar is premised on us being well equipped today for this purpose,
I therefore urge you, with my colleagues, to use your good office and urgently attend to this issue brought before you, as our erstwhile free Law Pavillion subscription has long expired.
6. I further urge you to favourably consider this application and continue what your
Predecessor sustained for 2 years. We have had so much to show for it. As you do this, be assured of our cooperation and contribution to make your tenure even more excellent than the previous ones.
7. Thank you in advance for renewing our free Law Pavillion subscription in earnest,
while urging you to also sustain same through your tenure and in line with your
election promises.
Kind regards,
ALPHONSUS INEGBEDION, SCN105823
