NBA PRESIDENT’S ADDRESS AT THE SUPREME COURT’S 2022/2023 LEGAL YEAR OPENING CEREMONY Mary Akanbi 30th December, 2022 Distinguished Colleagues,  The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, OON, SAN yesterday delivered an address before the Supreme Court in commemoration of the opening of the 2022/2023 legal year ceremony and conferment of the rank of Senior Advocates of Nigeria(SANs). Mr. Maikyau congratulated the new SANs and urged them to imbibe humility. NBA PRESIDENT CONDOLES WITH AKPATA FAMILY OVER DEATH OF PA OSABUOHIEN HUBERT AKPATA Mary Akanbi 25th November, 2022 The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, OON, SAN received the news of the passing of Pa Osabuohien Hubert Akpata, uncle of the immediate past President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Olumide Akpata. Pa Osabuohien Hubert Akpata (fondly called Papa) passed on at a ripe age of 82 and his long life has been described as impactful. The NBA President condoles  with the Akpata, Ogbebor n'usen and Aigbe-Ogiefa families of Edo State over the demise of Pa Osabuohien Hubert Akpata and prays that Almighty God comforts Pa Akpata's family and friends. UPDATE ON 2022 ANNUAL GENERAL CONFERENCE BAGS Mary Akanbi 24th November, 2022 Dear NBA- AGC 2022 Conference Delegates,  We write to provide an update regarding the delivery of conference bags to delegates of the AGC 2022 who did not collect theirs during the conference.  We appreciate that some months have passed since the end of the conference but assure you that we have been actively engaging with the vendor to deliver the outstanding conference bags. The circumstances that led to this unfortunate development are now well-known and are fully captured in the Statement issued by the then NBA President on 26th August 2022 to all members of the NBA. Thankfully, after several engagements and exchanges with the vendor, on Saturday, 19th November 2022, we took delivery of the last consignment of the correct specifications of the conference bags, and so we can now confirm that we have taken delivery of all of the 13,000 conference bags that the NBA ordered for the conference.  Wh

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, OON, SAN has been at the forefront of the campaign for better remuneration of Nigerian judicial officers. Following this campaign, a process is ongoing for an upward review of the salaries and allowances of judicial officers. Consequently, the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) requests memoranda, information and/or opinions from members of the NBA with respect to the remuneration of public, political and judicial office holders in the country. Members are by this Notice, requested to send in their memoranda, information and/or opinions with particular respect to the remuneration of judicial officers.  The memoranda, information and/or opinions are to be sent to the President through;

The Y.C Maikyau,OON,SAN led administration of the NBA recently rolled out access to the Law Pavillion Primsol Licence at no cost to young lawyers. Already, many young lawyers have started enjoying access to the electronic law report. However, to support  members who may have complaints or enquires in respect of this service, the NBA Publicity Team in conjunction with Law Pavillion Limited has set up Training and Handholding support sessions. The sessions began on Monday 21st November at 3pm and will continue everyday at 3pm till Thursday 24th November,2022. Tinubu disclosed that he almost had high blood pressure whenever he used social media. He lamented that he has been subjected to intense abuse by social media users, hence he avoids it. Activation of the web-based legal research tool (Primsol) has since commenced and I understand that LawPavilion has as of today, 12 November 2022, completed sending activation mails to all eligible young lawyers.    I have been informed, however,  that some have either been unable to activate their packages or have not received the activation mails from LawPavilion. We are committed to resolving all these issues, while also ensuring that we have an effective feedback process for all complaints.   Therefore, the NBA in conjunction with LawPavilion shall be hosting hand holding sessions to guide our eligible members through the activation process. Court set aside conviction of EFCC Boss, Bawa Mary Akanbi 10th November, 2022 The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja on Thursday set aside the contempt proceedings and all the directives of conviction for contempt against Abdulrasheed Bawa, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Justice Chizoba Oji set aside the proceedings today after hearing an application brought by Bawa. The application was brought pursuant to Section 6(6) (a) and Section 36(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), Section 91 of the Sheriffs and Civil Process Act, Cap S6 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004 and other relevant enactments. According to the court, at the time of the order, Bawa was not in contempt of court as he had complied with the order that the respondent’s Range Rover be released and by several internal memoranda, the applicant had initiated the EFCC’s internal mechanism to make the payment of t
